| High Capacity Transit Connections Feasibility Study—Sound Transit |
| |
The High Capacity Transit Connections study was initiated by Sound Transit to evaluate potential technologies and routes to connect the Sounder commuter rail Tukwila station to a future Link light rail station at Sea-Tac International Airport. The study also examined opportunities for intermediate stations at existing or future high density land to significantly increase ridership. Capital and operating costs, ridership potential, community acceptance, financial feasibility and environmental impacts were evaluated. A series of workshops encouraged local input into routing and station locations. To evaluate the feasibility of many potential alternatives, the candidates were aggregated into four technology groups:
- Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Syst
- Streetcar/Light Rail Transit (LRT) Systemsems
- Monorail and Skytrain Systems
- Personal Rapid Transit (PRT)/Automated Guideway Transit (AGT)
The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) included representatives from Sound Transit, the Port of Seattle (Sea-Tac International Airport) and the cities of Tukwila and SeaTac. Key property owner/developers were also allowed to attend TAC meetings. |
