Perteet, a civil engineering, planning, and construction management consulting firm is searching for a Wetland Ecologist.

Projects involve wetland and stream assessments and mitigation primarily for public projects in Western Washington and sometimes in Eastern Washington.

Responsibilities include:

  • Being a knowledgeable resource for multidisciplinary design teams with a civil engineering and capital project focus.
  • Scoping, conducting and delivering wetland delineations, stream assessments, and habitat impact assessments associated with public infrastructure projects and industrial land development
  • Participating in client outreach and project development activities, including project identification and tracking, proposal support, and client relations
  • Managing legacy wetland and stream-related monitoring projects, including client contacts, budgets, expenses, and supplemental contract needs.
  • Writing technical reports as the primary scientific author and preparing wetland and stream-related permit documentation to industry standards.
  • Working with in-house engineers, planners, landscape architects, and multidisciplinary staff to prepare project deliverables related to natural systems.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with US Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Ecology, Fish and Wildlife agencies, Department of Natural Resources, and city/county local agencies.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • PWS certification or demonstrated ability to obtain certification in the first 12 months of employment.
  • Successful public agency project experience in Washington State.
  • Advanced degree in biology, environmental science, natural resources management, or closely related field to be considered a “biologist” by training and expertise.
  • At least 3 years of experience in wetland/stream environmental consulting.
  • Completion of Department of Ecology training for wetland rating assessments and demonstrated knowledge of wetland and stream ecosystems in Washington State and in the Puget Sound lowlands.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and manage, with limited supervision, wetland determinations/delineations, stream assessments, wetland ratings, functional assessments, fish and wildlife habitat assessments, biological evaluations/assessments, and mitigation planning and design.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, SharePoint, GPS devices, and experience using GIS applications.
  • Demonstrated success in communications, organizational skills, and writing skills appropriate for environmental consulting.

We are currently searching for a Lead Stormwater Engineer to add to our Site/Stormwater/Utilities/Special Projects team.

Primary duties will include:

  • Demonstrate creativity in designing and implementing low-impact development (LID) techniques on public works projects.  The objectives on many projects will be with a focus on sustainability and ‘green’ design, such as incorporating storm treatment and conveyance facilities into the landscape features of a project.   You will be working with landscape architects and presenting ideas to public works officials on LID alternatives.
  • Creating independently detailed designs of stormwater quality treatment and detention facilities, hydraulics, general civil engineering, culvert and stream channel restoration, and coordination with agencies.
  • Business development and marketing.
  • Participation in project planning and design, proposal preparation, and client-focused sales efforts.
  • Working with a multi-discipline team and providing guidance/training for less experienced engineering staff.
  • Project coordination, determining and writing engineering specifications, planning work, establishing appropriate design methods, technical report preparation, and coordination with other technical disciplines.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Washington State licensed P.E.

  • Writing skills with experience preparing technical reports and writing specifications for construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of Synchro, VISSIM and Sidra to support traffic operations modeling a definite plus.
