Frequently asked questions about ESOPs

An ESOP, or employee stock ownership plan, is a tax-qualified deferred compensation employee benefit which makes the employees of that company beneficial owners of stock in that company. ESOPs are unique in that only ESOPs are required under US tax and labor laws to invest primarily in the securities of the sponsoring employer and the only employee retirement savings plan that law permits that may use borrowed funds to acquire its asset, the employer securities.

We think being an ESOP has an incredible impact on Perteet’s culture. When employees feel empowered to help solve issues, everyone benefits. We also see our ESOP as a way to be more inclusive because it allows everyone’s voice to be heard. Many of our most creative and innovative ideas come from our employees, wanting to make a difference for Perteet and for their future.

We belong to the ESOP Association. It is a great resource for everything ESOP.

Rich Perteet, PE, founded Perteet Engineering, Inc. in 1988. Our now-spacious offices began as one desk in the back room of a friend’s downtown Everett office. From that tiny room, Rich hired engineers and support staff. At the same time, he introduced ideas that spread his ingenious and entrepreneurial spirit throughout the company.

Better communities, by design
